We are experimenting with some homemade treats to refuel our customers on their bike rides!

First off we have chocolate rice crispy cakes with marshmallows.

COVID-19 Update

Route 72 Cafe remains open, every Thursday to Sunday 10am-4pm.

In order to keep staff and customers safe we have carried out a risk assessment to ensure the venue is safe for customers and staff.

We continue to operate from a kiosk, and all seating is outdoors.

  • Hand sanitiser is available on every table.
  • The NHS Track & Trace app QR code is visible at the entrance.
  • We have table service so customers can remain seated.
  • Every table/booth is distanced from the next, with seats facing away from the next tables.
  • A maximum of 60 people will be allowed in at any one time (10 tables of 6).
  • Staff will wear masks whilst in the kitchen.
  • A maximum of 3 people are allowed into the hallway at any one time, with masks to be worn whilst visiting the toilet facilities.
  • Extra cleaning will take place each morning before opening, focussing primarily on the bathroom.
  • Contactless payment is preferred.

We will constantly monitor the development of local guidelines to ensure our procedures meet requirements.

Bruce Soup

As the winter weather kicks in we’re introducing hot soups to our menu.

All homemade by our very own Bruce, perfect for warming yourself up after a walk or cycle by the River Tyne.

First off we have the classic Tomato & Basil, served with a roll for just £2.50. Takeaway available too.

Pie Time

Look what we are now serving – premium locally-sourced homemade pies. Delicious!

We have both meaty and vegetarian options, with a different selection each week.

Our pies are served with minty mushy peas for £3.50

Due to popular demand we have rebooked Queen tribute ‘We Are Champion to play at Route 72 on Friday 11th September 2020.

After a sensational atmosphere just a few weeks back we have them back on the Route 72 stage fora night of Queen’s biggest hits!

Smokin’ Spitfires Sat 12 Sep – AMENDED DATE

Due to licencing issues we have had to amend this gig to Saturday 12 September. Bar open from 11am with the band on stage at 1.30pm. This event will finish at 3.30pm as we have another gig straight after.

The Smokin Spitfires like their legendary forerunners the Eastside Torpedoes deliver good time, hard driving Soul and R&B music.
Whether it is the Soul Set of Stax / Atlantic covers with just a little Motown into the mix-

Britpop Festival feat. Howaysis – Sun 30 Aug SOLD OUT

Bringing you all the classic Oasis hits, join us on Sunday 30th August for an afternoon of 1990’s music with North East band Howaysis.

With Britpop DJ’s playing from 1pm, and Dave Red playing 1990’s acoustic covers at 2pm, the band will take the stage at 4pm.

weve now also added rising star Andrew Cushin (full band) to the line up. Andrew has a record with Noel Gallagher coming out later this year!

Elvis Presley passed away this week 42 year ago, so we thought it would be fitting to put a show on celebrating his incredible music.
